MOSS DA BEAST

MOSS DA BEAST

For some reason I seem to follow a lot of people from Chicago on twitter.  Another Chicagoan I have come across is Moss Da Beast.  He was actually a big part of why I went out on my 1st AndreaSpeakz outing.  He was set to do a show with several other acts in Columbus.  Just before the show I got a chance to check out his mixtape Marley Son Mixtape and I liked it…a lot…so I have had an eye on him ever since.

(If you haven’t gotten a chance to read my blog about that night, feel free…http://andreaspeakz.com/2012/04/23/it-was-like-dayton-night-in-columbus/ )

From just following him on twitter (@MossDaBeast) it is very evident that Moss is no novice to the music business.  I found out that Moss is Chicago born and bred but at one point moved to Nashville for a few years.  This allowed him to become very familiar with southern culture and gave him the opportunity to expand his knowledge of the music business.  Now; with a 8 year background in management, Moss is working hard on his solo career.  Released in August of 2010, his 1st solo mixtape “Almost There” was well received by fans with songs like “They Know Its Me” and “When It Get Gutta” (which was nominated for the hottest single in the 2010 “Hip-Hop in the Ville” awards).  Since then he has released several mixtapes (all available on Datpiff.com).  His first solo album “Let The Band Play” is scheduled to be released in the fourth quarter of this year, with singles such as “Got That Bag” which is available on Itunes, along with “Hangover” and “I Apologize” featuring Vyrgo.  Moss was once told “I didn’t sell a million records until I met a million people” and that is the motto Moss now lives by as he travels and reaches out to his audience nationwide.

Moss is managed by Oliver “DjBigO317” Jackson.  To read a little more about Moss see what BigO has to say here.  http://t.co/zm77jE3l

Below you can check out one of Moss’ most popular videos, LIVE FROM THE ELEVATOR.

See the one sheet link below for more information…and keep an eye out for him, because you will definitely be seeing more from Moss Da Beast

ALL WHITE AFFAIR (hosted by Lyfe Jennings)

IT WAS AN ALL WHITE AFFAIR, WITH LYFE JENNINGS

Toledo’s own Lyfe Jennings was back in Ohio on July 13th to host the All White Affair at the Franklin Park Conservatory in Columbus.  Now plants and flowers and trees and nature…that’s not really my thing, so I had never been to the conservatory before, but this trip was a no brainer.  I have been a Lyfe Jennings fan for years…ever since I heard Stick Up Kid off of his debut album (Lyfe 268-192).  I learned of the event on twitter from the Lyfe fan page www.twitter.com/TeamLyfe419 (shout out to TeamLyfe for always keeping us fans up to date).  So, Friday July 13th was my lucky day.  I had my white outfit and was ready to go.

This was the first “white party” I had ever been to, and this event was brought to us by Infinite Growth Entertainment (www.infinitegrowthent.com).  The set up was very nice…I went in the main entrance and up the stairs to find a large room with large round tables lining each side with both tables and chairs covered in white.  DJ Dru was set up at the front of the room with an Infinite Growth back drop to one side for pictures.  In the back of the room was a bar area to the left, and then a table with vegetables, cheeses, fruits and a few other hors d’oeuvres to the right.  A hallway led you out of the main room and down into a green house area, with plants, flowers and all types of greenery.  Once you walked thru that area you had a choice of 2 outdoor patio areas…1 on either side.  Each patio area was also decorated with white covered tables and chairs.  One of the patio areas also had a live band playing; it was all very elegant.  There were a few different photographers walking around offering to take your picture during the night, and in the green house area there was another back drop for anyone who wanted to pose for a picture there.  As the party filled up it was a definite grown and sexy feel, but the crowd was pretty diverse.  Most people had all white on, but of course there were those that wanted to throw a pop of color in there too…and there were a few that seemed to be out right rebelling at the idea LOL…but none the less, it was a good-looking crowd.

I spent the beginning of the night in the main room enjoying the variety of music DJ Dru was playing (I will definitely look to see where I can catch him working again).  After some time, a drink and some food I walked back to the patio with the live band.  They introduced themselves as The Unit Band from Cleveland (www.reverbnation.com/theunitband) …and they were exceptional.  If you ever get the chance to check them out, I highly recommend them.

Now all that was left was to see Lyfe!  While everything I saw for this event clearly stated that Lyfe Jennings was HOSTING this party, I couldn’t help but get a little excited at the idea that he might just surprise us with a tune or two.  I mean, the instruments, sound system and mics are right there.  But; while I was fully aware that any singing/performance from Lyfe would be a generous gift, other people seemed to believe they were owed a performance.  I myself even told a few people that “he’s hosting and I do not expect him to sing”….and that was perfectly fine with me.  He had been gone for several years and I was just happy he was home, making music and out and about again.  I hope anyone that was there, and who may have had an unrealistic expectation of the night understands that just because a singer is going to be at the party doesn’t mean they are going to sing at the party.  Shortly after the band completed there set and DJ Dru was being pumped back out in all areas, I heard the words I had been waiting for “LYFE JENNINGS IS IN THE BUILDING”.  I remained calm…outwardly, but after a short stint sitting there like I was still enjoying the cool breeze I headed back inside and up the hallway to the main room.  When I reached the top of the hallway, there he was in his white suit and blue shirt.  There wasn’t a crush from the crowd but it was a steady stream of mostly women coming up to him and asking for pictures.  I actually started to not approach him…he was clearly trying to come down the hallway and see the other areas in the party, but as he walked past I couldn’t let that moment slip away.  Of course he was very nice and sweet as he took a picture with me (as he was with the many others there), and then he proceeded down the hall to the patio areas.

Back in the main room the crowd had definitely gotten loose and the dance floor was rocking.  After a short time Lyfe returned to the main room and mingled with the crowd.  At one point DJ Dru indicated that “ALL TOLEDO PEOPLE COME OVER HERE TO GET PICTURES” and I am pretty sure half the place got up…the Toledo love was heavy in there (of course).  Before I knew it 1am had come around, the lights went up and we all began to make our way out of the venue.  Personally I had a great time.  There was great music, a good crowd and Lyfe Jennings…what else could I ask for?  I also look forward to seeing more of what Infinite Growth will have to offer, because this event was a thumbs up for me.

Pay-Per Flave

PAY-PER FLAVE

Several weeks ago I tweeted that I seem to keep hearing about a lot of talent coming out of Toledo.  Now on the radar is Fabian Foster…or some of you may know him as Pay-Per Flave.  Pay-Per Flave is actually from Chicago, but at some point he found his way to the Buckeye state and has now settled in Toledo.

Mr. Foster’s music reveals that he is a versatile artist with the ability to blend genres such as rap and pop in a song like ”She’s That One”…as well as getting his swag rap on in a song like ”Doing My Thang”.  That song happens to be Pay-Per Flave’s new single (see promotional video below).  The single is available on iTunes and CD Baby, while the mixtape(“The Waiting Line”) is available on datpiff.com.  Currently he is involved in his second year of the Ohio Hip Hop Awards Showcase Tour and is  promoting his single, mix tapes and the coming project hosted by Core Dj’s Dj SKNO entitled, ”Who Knows Pay-Per Flave”.

*SIDE NOTE*  Pay-Per Flave counts 2 Pac, Master P, P. Diddy, Kanye, B.O.B & Nelly among some of his influences.

In his own words Flave indicates that “I am a young inspiring artist from the windy city of Chicago. I am currently residing in Ohio but i have been traveling through different regions promoting myself and have been receiving a lot of positive feedback.  I have been writing, recording and engineering my own music for eight years now.”

TRACY HAYNES

TOLEDO’S OWN, TRACY HAYNES

Unfortunately I missed the 419 Music Awards this year (TOLEDO STAND UP!) …however, what I did get from the awards was a tip on a young singer from Toledo, OH named Tracy Haynes aka “The Rarebreed”.  I reached Tracy through twitter (shout out and thanks to DJ BigO) and asked him to send me his information.

The 1st thing I noticed is that Tracy is more than a R&B singer..he is also a songwriter and producer, influenced by such greats as Marvin Gaye & Sam Cooke.  With his father being a gospel singer, music was in Tracy’s blood.  This is apparent once you realize that Tracy has been singing for almost as long as he has been talking (since the age of 2).  His teenage years saw him involved in two groups; 1st came a gospel group named True Faith at the age of 14, and in high school the 2nd group was a R&B septuplet called All Out.  True Faith achieved local recognition performing at churches in the region.  While with All Out Tracy’s writing and production skills emerged strong and they were able to receive local urban radio air play as well as perform throughout Toledo and surrounding areas.  When the members of All Out decided to pursue solo careers Tracy decided it was time to take his musical ambitions to another level.

As a solo artist Tracy made every effort to learn the business, innovate his craft, and build an audience. He worked his way into performing on the Tom Joyner talent showcase as well as being featured as “Toledo Idol” on Fox News.  Those things helped make it possible for him to open for major artists such as T pain, Bobby Valentino, BG, Ciara, Tyrese, Trey Songz, Drake and more.  In June 2009, Tracy released his first album “RareBreed”, which includes hits like “Go Live”, Pretend”, “If it Aint You”, “Take My Time” and more.  It was  eventually nominated for a Ohio Hip Hop award as best album.  2010 saw Tracy gain national attention as a semi-finalist in Steve Harvey’s Radio Star Contest, as well as putting in work at the legendary Apollo Theater, and Wild Out Wednesday on BET’s 106 & Park.

Of course Tracy wants to impact the music industry and make timeless music, but a great thing about this young man is that he is also concentrating on giving back to his community.  Tracy has already started this process by being Co-Founder of Dunkin’ for Donations, a charity basketball game to benefit local foster kids.  Currently Tracy is working on his 2nd album and recently released the single “Go Girl.”

Now, I certainly can’t predict the future…but I’d bet money that you will being seeing and hearing more from Mr. Tracy Haynes aka “The Rarebreed”.  check out his video/song for “If It Ain’t You” below.
